The blog page has provided an opportunity for many batch-mates to share memories and narrate their personal stories from the past.
In that same spirit, I am sharing this message (with the photograph) that Aditya wrote to me in May 2020:
Manu
“Yes, it is an unfortunate truth that in 2019 – I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the esophagus and chemotherapy was started despite knowing fully well that the prognosis is bad. Undoubtedly the whole family including myself were shattered.
After much deliberation, I am divulging this unfortunate fact with you not to gain any sympathies, but to share the thrill of an experience (and not letting the diagnosis dictate me), which I know you people would understand.
I hope you remember me! I am the one holding a small poster. On 11th April, 2019 I was diagnosed with cancer of oesophagus (COO). On 11th June, 2019 I did my last trek with Indiahikes to Bhrigu Lake (BLT).
My dear wife Neera inspired me to follow my love for hiking, and go on the Bhrigu Lake trek. On chemotherapy, without telling my doctors or Indiahikes, and also didn’t disclose to my fellow trekkers – I completed my trek accompanied by my two sons. This time, I did off load my luggage and took insurance to cover for any mishap.
Though I am ambulatory, I know I am not in a condition to do such an adventure again!
Lockdown for me is not a big problem; specially in front of ca esophagus. I have been ‘promoted’ to Fentanyl patches, you know that means the end is nearer now!! “
