Rewind to summer of 1974 and here we are being called “doctor sahib” by mess staff, pampering our ego. Land up in the hostel with Baldev as my room mate. Remember the day he ate meat Koftas ( being vegetarian) and telling Piara in the mess staff to have it made everyday !
Remember Rajeev Sood early morning and late evening with somebody chasing him to beat the hell out of him for calling them names and bothering someone or the other !
Can give anything to be back in the dissection hall to witness the bonhomie once again.
The fear of Beebee was something but later on becomes something to remember.
Time flies after all the stages and Sent up exams to be promoted to 2nd prof and that is when the real fun starts. The subjects are easier and the pressure is lesser. One long walk on the Lawrence road everyday is what everyone looks forward to.
The confidence of Vijay Bhalla (the proxy master) who even stands up after calling my proxy in Dr. Pathak’s class, who being a family friend knows that I am away !
The firm determination to have central room in C block right opposite the play grounds from the very beginning of joining medical college and feels like that we have achieved the world after getting room no 50 allotted. The best period of my life !
Though I shifted to Patiala for internship but always longed to be back in Amritsar.
After all the struggle of late internship, I started house job in Ophthalmology with four others namely Rajeev Sood, Jassi, Sodhi and Harmohinder singh. The relationship established during that period and following 2 years of post graduation went a very long way. I owe everything to my alma mater, Glancy Medical College Amritsar.
To this day, I never miss an opportunity to drive by the bylanes of Medical College whenever I get a chance to go to Amritsar. Sorry, I am a little laid back and hence have very little to contribute on what’s app. But I cannot wait to be with everybody in in February.
Rajiv Mirchia.
