Friends, I have great memories of the golden years of our life i.e.1974-79 which I want to share with you all. But before that I must share my story behind the entrance to this pious place, GMC Amritsar. It was all due to great motivation by my late father who had the dream of making me a doctor. He used to say “ If you don’t get the admission in the medical college, all the souls of the insects frogs etc. that you have dissected in prep and premedical classes will haunt you in life and you will have sin for those. But if you become a doctor God will forgive you. Those were the words which always persuaded me to study hard in 12th class to get the admission in the medical college. So finally I got the admission and in hot and humid month of August 1974, myself and Jyoti entered the girls hostel with the great fear of ragging in our minds. One type of ragging which I never forget was that a lot of hair oil was poured in our hair by our seniors and funny part was that we were forced to go to our classes next day without washing our hair. Somehow this tough time of ragging also passed. After that four and a half years of hostel life was the best years of my life. Memories are still very fresh. All of us shared joyful and sad moments of our lives. I had moral support of all my friends when I lost my father in final M.B.B.S. I was totally shattered but thanks to all my friends who supported me at that time. That is the reason I have labeled 1974 – 79 as the golden years of my life.
